NATHAN PUTNAM
Our ambassador Nathan Putman and his wife Jackie live in southwest Idaho and spend most of their time in the Trinity and Sawtooth Mountains.
The goats are his full-time job. He and his wife raise baby goats, train pack goats and embark on exciting backcountry adventures with their adult goats. Nathan also manufactures Packgoat equipment and is constantly working on different projects around the farm.
You may wonder, why goats? ‘’I’ve been breeding and training pack goats since 2016, for the type of hunting and terrain we encounter, goats were the only solution for getting into places larger pack stock cannot. I like that they are personable and friendly and similar to hiking with a dog. I encountered someone in the backcountry that had goats and then, once I was in a position to get them myself, I dove in.’’ - Nathan
HIS PASSIONS
His passion revolves around hunting and outdoor adventures. Everything he enjoys doing is geared towards spending time outside. When he is not in the backcountry with his goats, he’s bird hunting with Godric, his Wirehaired Pointing Griffon companion dog.
HIS BIG BILL FAVORITES
Nathan’s ultimate BIG BILL’s favorite is our wool. He mentioned to us numerous times that our wool is perfect for hunting outer layers, especially once the weather turns cold. After trying different brands of wool clothing on the market, he told us that he has never been more comfortable in the cold season than he was this year with his BIG BILL’s Hooded Merino Wool Jacket and his BIG BILL Merino Wool Cargo Pants. He said that it’s the ideal wool for late-season big game hunting and cold weather bird hunting. ‘’Heavy fabric, but not cumbersome, they keep you warm especially in the wind and snow.’’ – Nathan
Another of Nathan’s favorite BIG BILL’s clothing piece would be our Quilted Flannel Jacket. He uses it as a barn jacket. He said it’s good for light chores like throwing hay and mucking when it’s cold out in the mornings. When it’s really chilly, he switches to our Sherpa-Lined Duck NEK Jacket, which is perfect for blustery weather and more serious farm work like moving firewood and fencing. ‘’Everything is farm work around here so I need clothing that is tough enough to handle whatever I throw at it.’’ – Nathan
Throughout our partnership with Nathan, he has shared valuable feedback, insightful opinions, and thoughtful suggestions on our BIG BILL clothing line. We truly appreciate his input, as it continues to be an invaluable asset in refining and improving our products.
