I've owned many pairs of wool pants over the years, and these pants have really impressed me. When I gear up for a day of work or play outside, I know I can depend on these pants to keep me comfortable and warm. I use these pants for for all kinds of activities including backpacking in cool to cold weather. When it is less then 50 deg F, I usually don't have to carry them; I'm wearing them. Sometimes I do carry them when I'm on a long, steep climb and I switch them out for a lighter layer, but that is rare and shorter duration. The performance they deliver in cool and wet whether is worth the extra weight. If they do get wet, I take them off and slap them hard against a rock or a tree trunk several times, this removes most of the water they have absorbed. Wool fibers don't hold onto water the same way other fibers do, it will still be damp, but damp wool is nothing to worry about; it is 90% as warm and comfortable as dry wool. Most of the time I don't notice these pants are wet until I take them off. Will stand up to years of heavy use. Very reasonable price. I will definitely buy from Big Bill again.

Amazing pants, I own both these and the merino version. They fit very well and are comfortable. The quality is very apparent, these are well made pants. At this price, these are a no-brainer for anyone who wants to stay warm in winter. I've been chasing the perfect cold weather hunting wardrobe for years, spending tons of money on synthetics, all to circle back to the tried and true wool system. Nothing is better. I repeat: nothing is better than wool for a cold weather hunting kit. The only time these would not be chosen over a newer synthetic system would be in a backpack scenario where weight matters. Besides any time you need to carry everything on your back, this is it.
